Relationships

Kendrick Louis
This is the final piece in a series of articles I’ve shared since publishing How to Stay Focused on Your Health Resolutions in 2025 back in January.
Honestly, I didn’t expect the wave of messages, questions and personal stories that came flooding in. What started as a simple guide to help people stick to their resolutions quickly turned into something bigger — a conversation about what really matters in life.
A lot of you wanted to go deeper.
You didn’t just want tips — you wanted real-life examples, the unfiltered version. The moments behind the curtain. And that’s what this article is about.
At UAre, the company I co-founded alongside Marc Pasques and Grant Ellison, we live by one powerful mantra:
Your Health Is Your Wealth.
We believe it’s the most valuable investment you’ll ever make. Not just because of what it gives you today — more energy, more focus, better sleep, but because of what it protects for your future: your presence, your relationships, and your time.
So, for this last article in the series, I’m pulling back the curtain and sharing what that mantra has meant to me, not just as an athlete or a founder, but as a husband, a dad, and a human trying to figure it all out, just like you.
Early Mornings, Late Nights – Investing in My Future
Let me take you into a typical day in my life.
It starts before the sun comes up. I’m up while the rest of the house sleeps. Most days I am out the door and heading to the pool at 5am. Others, it’s a run or some mixed session at the beach. By the time the world is waking up, I’ve already put in the work. Not because I’m chasing a gold medal (that’s part of the reason) but most importantly I’m investing in my future self.
These are the moments no one sees.
They don’t see the stretches I squeeze in at night after our little one is finally down, or the foam rolling I do while binge-watching a few episodes of Billions. They don’t see the days I’m running on little sleep, but still show up and move my body, even if it’s just a walk and a dive in the ocean.
One morning sticks out in particular. We'd (my wife and I) had a rough night with our son Leo , and I was cooked. I stood at the front door in silence, training bag in hand, every part of me wanting to crawl back into bed. But then I thought — what kind of dad, what kind of man and role model do I want to be?
So I went. Not for the sake of training. But because I knew I’d feel better, think clearer, and have more to give when I walked back through that door.
That’s what I mean when I say your health is your wealth. You can’t pour from an empty cup. Every small act of self-investment fills the tank for the people who matter most.
The Lesson from Injury – Wealth Beyond Money
Last year, I copped an injury that took me out of the game for 12 weeks.
It rocked me.
Somewhat physically (obviously), but definitely emotionally. For someone who’s always been active, suddenly being forced to stop was a shock to the system. And it wasn’t just about fitness, it was the self-worth spiral that came with it. I didn’t feel like I was being the dad, the partner, or the leader my family needed me to be.
But pain is often the best teacher.
Instead of wallowing in frustration, I went inwards. I worked on my mindset like I used to work on my core strength. I practiced patience. I embraced stillness. I replaced sprints with slow breathing and mobility work. I learned to be, not just do. This was tough for me and it was paramount I had the right support through this phase. Special Kudos to my beautiful wife (Holly), who was now caring and supporting two children, one 34 y/old and a 2.5 y/old.
The big shift? Gratitude.
I stopped focusing on what I couldn’t do and started appreciating what I could. The extra Storytime with my son. The deeper conversations with Holly. The chance to slow down and reset.
That injury reminded me of something brutal but true: no amount of financial security can replace your physical and mental health. You can have all the success in the world, but if you don’t have the energy or presence to enjoy it, what’s it really worth?
The Ultimate Motivation – The Richest Man in the Room
There’s a moment I think about often, a moment that hasn’t happened yet, but one I know will come.
One day, my kids are going to look up and ask me, “Dad, why do you train so much?”
I’ve somewhat thought about my answer. I could talk about discipline. Or my Ironman background. Or setting a good example.
But the real answer is simple: “Because I want to be here for you. For a long, long time.”
That’s it.
That’s why I fuel my body with real food. Why I carve out time for movement. Why I prioritise sleep, healthy habits, and mindset training.
It’s so I can be at their sports carnivals. At their graduations. One day, at their wedding.
To me, the richest man in the room isn’t always the one with the biggest bank account, it’s the one with the energy to be fully present in the moments that matter.
And the only way to earn that kind of wealth… is to take care of your health today.
Where to from here?
At UAre, we don’t believe in quick fixes or one-size-fits-all plans.
We create personalised Well Being Improvement Plans designed around the four pillars that make the biggest difference in how you live and feel:
Movement: Daily activity you want to do, not just feel forced into.
Mindset: Mental strength, emotional resilience, and presence.
Relationships: Deep connections that lift you up, not drain you.
Habits: Sustainable routines that anchor your day.

This Isn’t the End — It’s the Start
This article might be the last in the series, but it’s just the beginning for you.
If anything I’ve shared has struck a chord, let it be a nudge. A wake-up call. A permission slip to start putting yourself, your health, first.
Because the most powerful thing you can do in 2025 isn’t smashing a gym PB or cutting carbs.
It’s choosing to value your life.
To really understand that…
Your Health Is Your Wealth.
Protect it. Build it. Honour it. And you’ll be the richest person in every room you walk into.
Let’s make this your best year yet.
Best wishes,
KL
